1 out of 5 stars Sagged on the bottom   September 8, 2010
Reanna J. Bueno (Sunnyvale, CA United States)
Sagged on the bottom when I put my D90 with 50mm prime lens in it. Also, the flap is very long and inconvenient. I returend it and purchaced a domke f-5xb, which I love!

4 out of 5 stars Good lightweight messenger camera bag   August 31, 2010
Bertrand Hui (Columbia River Gorge)
I purchased the Lowepro Exchange Messenger bag as a secondary bag for traveling and general, weekend walkabout shooting. Typically, I am carrying a camera body slung across my chest using a Black Rapid strap with a lens attached. This bag is definitely light on the padding as other reviewers have mentioned before me. It comes with two padded dividers that split up the main compartment into three different sections. The dividers are attached to the main compartment via two Velcro strips running horizontally inside the bag, one on top of the other.

Ideal use cases for the bag - as stated earlier, the bottom of the bag was not very well padded at all. This would be ok if I were shooting an event and never intended to put the bag down on a hard surface. However, because there are Velcro strips along the bottom of the bag, I could add padding from other Lowepro bags I had and attach them to the bottom (which is what I've done). This worked out well for my purposes because the whole reason I picked up the bag was for lightness and mobility - I wanted to keep my lenses close to my body so that I could shoot quickly and change lenses quickly. Additionally, because I'm able to take out the dividers, I was able to easily collapse the Exchange Messenger flat inside a carry-on suitcase, saving a lot of space. When I travel, I typically carry all my camera equipment in a sturdier case (Lowepro Flipside 400 or Thinktank Airport Security). Both are too bulky to carry around with me while shooting weddings, so I carry extra lenses/batteries/memory cards inside the Exchange Messenger once I get to my destination. The Exchange Messenger is deep enough to fit Canon's EF 70-200 F/2.8 comfortably and still have the top flap close over it.

The divided pockets are well-constructed, and I was able to keep my iPhone in one of those pockets and keep spare memory cards in the zippered pocket. If I weren't shooting for a short period of time, I could put my 5D Mark II with 24-105 lens face down into the bag and still close the top flap - it was a little top heavy as the dividers themselves don't really act as barriers to prevent camera movement, but rather as just padding to prevent scratch damage.

Lastly, I found the top flap clips to be a little cumbersome to use. Aesthetically, they're great because the clips tying the top flap down are hidden underneath the top flap. Functionally, they were a little hard to get to (when compared to a bag that has the clips in plain sight) and they felt a little flimsy, but they got the job done. I typically just leave the top flap unclipped and let the flap bounce as I walk.

Summary:
PROS:
1) light
2) divided pockets
3) one (1) zippered pocket
4) roomy main compartment
5) Contrasting internal bag color
6) side Velcro strips are well-placed
7) Collapsable into airplane carry-on

CONS:
1) Very light padding
2) Flimsy-feeling plastic buckles
3) The same buckles are a little hard to get to

4 out of 5 stars Good Bag for Sightseeing   August 18, 2010
showme52 (Midwest)
I searched for an affordable bag to carry my SLR during a recent cruise. I wanted something comfortable, not bulky, that I could also carry a few personal items in so I didn't have to carry a purse. I found it in this bag.
Yes, the padding is not so great, but I did as someone else suggested, and took some padding out of another bag to add a little more. It was perfect for the short sightseeing trips on shore. It was very comfortable to wear due to the design of the bag and the wide, adjustable straps. I did find the buckle closure cumberson to use when trying to quickly open or close the bag. I would recommend this bag to friends.

4 out of 5 stars Nice little bag   July 9, 2010
Curt Sletten (Chatsworth, CA USA)
Once in a while I need to grab a few items out of my bag to take with me, and this bag fits the bill just fine. Padding is acceptable. I would have preferred a little more, but it's not a real problem for me. I would have given it five stars if the padding was a little better and if there was a better choice of colors -- I know, big deal. I like my camera bags to be black. Overall, a good bag for the price.

3 out of 5 stars Flimsy Padding!   June 10, 2010
R. Espinos
Cool looking bag, but the padding is terrible. When I set the bag on the floor, I'm already nervous about the lens. The side that is closest to your body is very thin, so I'd recommend a cloth or something to protect your camera. The adjustable padding on the inside is held together by velcro and is so-so on the quality. However, for the price and versatility, it's not bad.
