 Effortless transfer of media July 31, 2010

After running disk utility and formatting the WD for OSX it took little over 2.5 hours to move 230 GB of iTunes media, along with the iTunes program so I could free up my hard drive. Opens fast, no issues.

The first drive was a complete dud, and what it was able to do before it died completely... was slow. The good news is Amazon's replacement policy is EXCELLENT. Amazon sent a replacement drive by next day and so far it is working great! Two tips for increased speed of the drive for copy/backup use... 1) when you get the drive, perform a "quick" reformat in Windows to give it an 8k allocation unit, 2) disable Windows search indexing on this drive. I have tested it with these changes under both Windows Vista 64 and Windows 7 64... and it works quite well with either the standard Windows copy function or with Teracopy (a 3rd party copy replacement).

Easy to install. No documentation enclosed, so I didn't understand until I phoned tech support that it does not include software for automatic back up. You manually drag and drop files to the back-up disk -- which is OK with me. Support experience was excellent, reached tech support by phone immediately.
